The history of Moncler could date back to 1952. It was established by Rene Ramillon who was an entrepreneur and manufacturer of mountain gear. In 1954, its brand name "Moncler" was adapted from a small village named Monastier de Clermont near Grenoble where was its birth place. At that time, it was the first company that manufacturered down jackets which was originally worn by brand's employees and later became popular through mountaineering champion Lionel Terray who was the first people realized the potential of Moncler Down Jackets. In 1968, thanks for lightweight and superb quality of its down jackets, Moncler was chosen to be official supplier of the French national team during the 1968 Winter Olympics in Grenoble, France. In the early 1980s, Moncler down jackets were no longer the ones that could only be worn on the ski slopes, they became populat as lighter jackets suitable for winter wear. In 2003, the brand was bought by creative director Remo Ruffini who bought the company back to its peak performance. Due to the great popularity of Moncler, its boutiques have been distributed all over the world nowadays.
